Iraqi President, Libya’s Acting Foreign Minister Discuss Regional Developments and Bilateral Ties

Baghdad: Iraqi President Nizar Amidi and Libya’s Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Taher Al-Baour have held talks focusing on regional and international developments, bilateral relations and ways to strengthen political coordination between Iraq and Libya.

During the meeting in Baghdad on Monday, the two officials exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of common concern as well as current political developments across the region. 

Focus on Iraq-Libya Relations

The discussions also addressed relations between Iraq and Libya and opportunities to further develop cooperation between the two countries.

Both sides explored ways to enhance coordination and political consultation, with an emphasis on supporting efforts that contribute to security and stability. 

The meeting comes as Baghdad and Tripoli are seeking to give fresh momentum to their bilateral relationship. Al-Baour is in Iraq as part of a Libyan delegation attending meetings of the Libyan-Iraqi Joint Committee, which resumed after a hiatus of nearly 25 years. 

Wider Cooperation Between Iraq and Libya

During Al-Baour’s visit, Libyan and Iraqi officials have also discussed expanding cooperation across a range of sectors.

Separate talks between Al-Baour and Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein covered bilateral relations and opportunities for closer coordination, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest. 

The two countries have highlighted the importance of strengthening their partnership and expanding cooperation in areas that serve their common interests.

Supporting Regional Security and Stability

The latest discussions underline ongoing diplomatic efforts by Iraq and Libya to maintain consultation on developments affecting the Middle East and North Africa.

Both sides emphasised the importance of greater coordination and political dialogue in supporting regional security and stability, as well as developing stronger bilateral relations.
